Who we help

Helping you put the pieces together.

We offer services that focus on creating positive change for you – little steps at first that over time lead to large scale improvements.

Our psychologists guide adults, adolescents, children, executives, and businesses through therapeutic services, sharing with you practical tools to improve your relationships and life. Our approach is client-centered, evidence-based, and as individual as you are.

We know it takes time to learn the ins and outs of why you’re feeling the way you are - from loss to sadness, overwhelm to stress and anxiety to anger. Your emotions are complex, but our team is here to help you accept and express them, fostering self-esteem and growth.

Services

Committed to providing meaningful psychological care, we know there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution to the challenges you may be facing.

We support our clients to deal with a range of challenges, including:

Mood disturbances

This often presents as low mood, withdrawing for enjoyable activities, irritability, feeling worthless and/or hopeless and suicidal/self-harm thoughts or behaviour.

It may also present as anxiety, such as feeling overwhelmed, stressed, panicked, having difficulty concentrating or making decisions, difficulty winding down and poor sleep.

Disordered eating

This often presents as binge eating, emotional eating, restricting, over-exercising or experiencing body image concerns.

Communication difficulties

This often presents as difficulty with anger, trouble understanding your emotions and communicating your needs, lack of assertive communication skills, withdrawing for social support, and difficulty communicating effectively.

Trauma

This often presents as flashbacks and increased anxiety, or having difficulty understanding and trusting others, it may also present as feeling detached and not yourself.

Treatments

Our goal at Mind Cookie Psychology is to work collaboratively to help you achieve the personal outcome you are looking for, in a safe and relaxed space.

We use a range of treatments to empower our clients to creative positive change including:

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

CBT has been shown to be very effective for depression, anxiety, substance use, eating disorders and some complete mental health disorders.

CBT is based on the idea that your thoughts, feelings, and actions are all connected and negative symptoms come from faulty or maladaptive thinking. This contributes to a pattern of unhelpful behaviour. Therapy involves efforts, strategies, activities to change these patterns and challenge the negative thoughts and beliefs.

Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT embraces the core message of accepting what’s out of your personal control and committing to actions that improve your life. ACT helps you develop skills to deal with thoughts and feelings effectively and assists you in clarifying what is truly important to you. ACT utilises a variety of techniques and is most well-known for its use of mindfulness.

Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy is an integrative therapy combining elements of CBT, psychoanalysis, and emotional-focus therapy. Maladaptive schemas (unhelpful belief in which we then view the world with) can develop when emotional needs as a child are not met. They can then contribute to problematic and unhelpful coping styles and behaviour. Schema therapy involves identifying and modifying these maladaptive schemas and coping styles and helping you be able to express and meet your emotional needs.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages clients to focus (only briefly) on a traumatic memory or adverse life event while experiencing bilateral stimulation (normally eye movements – similar to REM sleep). The therapy focuses on directly altering the emotions, thoughts, and responses resulting from traumatic experiences and intended to change the way the memory is stored in the brain. This ideally reduces and eliminates the problematic symptoms.
